Chapter 608
Everett used to roll his eyes at the idea of grand gestures, thinking they were all just flashy nonsense. He was a man of logic and control, not someone who got swept up in emotions. But something changed. Maybe it was Selena's influence, or maybe his own heart was softening. Whatever it was, he couldn't wait to tell the world that Selena was his wife.
He dreamed of walking hand in hand with her down the aisle, feeling the warmth of everyone's blessings. It was a strange feeling for a man who always believed he could rely only on himself. The old saying was true: Love makes fools of us all.
Selena didn't give him an answer right away, so Everett held her close, almost losing himself in the moment. At last, when she was nearly breathless against his shoulder, she murmured, "We'll talk about it when you get back."
But Everett knew her. Her words might have been noncommittal, but her heart had already said yes. Even if a big part of her decision was for their son, the fact that any part of it was for him made Everett happy. He kissed her deeply one more time, savoring the moment before reluctantly letting her go and driving away.
When Selena finally made it to the foyer, her legs were still wobbly. She felt a mix of annoyance and a secret sweetness. As she changed her shoes, Ava popped up out of nowhere, giving her a cheeky grin. "So, didn't come home last night, huh? Must've been a pretty special anniversary with Mr. Everett!" Ava, a bit of a romantic herself, could tell just from Selena's blushing face how exciting the previous night had been. She was genuinely happy for Selena, feeling like all the tough times had finally led to happiness.
Selena, always quick to blush, thought back to Everett's antics
from last night-the playful chaos in the bath and her face turned
crimson. Pretending not to hear ne
Ava's teasing, she headed to the kitchen for a drink. Ava followed, casting a curious glance at Selena's bare neck.
"Where's that pink diamond necklace? You didn't wear it? I wanted to touch it for some good luck."
Selena paused mid-sip. Ava
mentioning the necklace reminded her that she'd completely forgotten about the gift in her frustration over Everett being late the day before. They' spent the whole evening together, and she hadn't noticed any
gift from him. Maybe it any
his rush to meet her. She'd just
in
remind him later.
She explained briefly to Ava, who rolled her eyes. "How could he forget that?"
But Selena wasn't too fussed. She smiled. "Is Mateo still asleep? I'll go check on him."
Heading upstairs, she went straight to the nursery. Mateo was bundled up under the blankets, his cheeks rosy and adorable. Unable to resist, Selena leaned down to kiss her beloved son, feeling like she could never give him enough affection.noveldrama
Stirring awake, Mateo saw his mom
and, still groggy, instinctively reached out to her, signing with his small hands. "Mommy, were you and Daddy out making a sister ast night? Ava wouldn't let me caff you! She said it wasn't suitable for kids..."
Even though his voice had improved, Mateo had been learning sign language while recovering and continued using it out of habit.
