Chapter 857
Holt: "But...he's already gone..."
Selena chuckled softly, "He may have died in Y Country, but Joy didn't see it for herself, did she? What if I told you he's alive again? Wouldn't someone with a guilty conscience be afraid of a ghost knocking at their door in the dead of night?"
"I'm betting she won't get through this one!"
As thunder rumbled around them, Holt suddenly grasped Selena's plan. Her initial surprise slowly melted into admiration.
With genuine respect, she said, "Miss, your mind is something else."
No surprise there she's part of the Irwin family, and the big boss's niece, no less.
Selena started giving Holt some quiet instructions.
Since Selena needed to stay home to recover and attend her therapy sessions, Holt didn't linger. Once their business chat wrapped up, she headed out.
As soon as she was outside, Holt whipped out her phone, dialed a number, and relayed her conversation with Selena, word for word.
Lakeside Mansion
Mateo was off to school, while Everett stayed back, trying to soothe a grumpy Haley and coax her into eating breakfast.
Though the little girl usually seemed easygoing, she threw a fit when she couldn't see her mom. Her wails were loud and persistent, leaving Everett at his wit's end.
He couldn't even make it to work; he was stuck at home, tending to his little princess.
With teary eyes, Haley pleaded, "Daddy, I want Mommy!"
Everett gently patted her back, using the softest, most comforting voice he could muster, "Sweetheart, Mommy's sick and needs some time to get better. We need to be patient and wait for her, okay?"
Haley didn't fully get it, but she understood 'sick.' She looked at him with big, sad eyes, her chubby hand clutching his shirt. "How long... I miss Mommy."
Everett's heart ached. "Daddy misses Mommy too..."
He gently stroked Haley's soft hair. Without realizing it, she was already over a year old. He had longed for her back then, but sadly, since her birth, he and Selena hadn't been together to watch her grow.
Everett reassured her, "It won't be long. We have to believe in Mommy."noveldrama
He was trying to comfort both his daughter and himself.
Haley was easy to cheer up. She pouted and then tilted her head, saying, "If Daddy ties my hair, I won't cry."
Tying hair...
Everett could handle billion-dollar deals without breaking a sweat, but this? Tying hair was a different beast.
He suggested, "How about we let Kate help you with that?"
"No, I want Daddy to do it. Mommy always did it..."
Everett couldn't stand to see her cry, so he sighed and picked up the little brush,
awkwardly attempting to
Haley's hair.
He thought, if he could manage the sprawling Bennett Corporation, how hard could it be to tie some hair?
When Alex returned after dropping

Mateo off at school, he walked into the living room to see Everett and. Haley sitting on the carpet. Haley was busy with her dolls, while Everett, ever the composed boss, was clumsily tying his daughter's hair, his face serious and his focus intense, as if he were in the middle of a high-stakes negotiation.
The kicker? It looked a right mess.
Alex couldn't hold back and burst into laughter.
Everett glanced up at Alex, a flash, embarrassment in his eyes, but
being Everett, he simply shru nex
off.
Dhe wasn't embarrassed, the awkwardness was on anyone else.
it
He casually set the brush aside and moved to the sofa, clearing his throat.
Alex stifled his laughter, stepped forward, and said, "Mr. Everett, your wife's ready
to make her move."
Alex quickly laid out the situation.
Everett leaned back against the leather sofa, a smirk playing at his lips.
That's Selena for you.
Quick on the uptake and ready to hit back.
Alex continued, "Mr. Everett, anything we need to prep on our end?"
What do you think?
