Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 963

She was adamant, clinging to that last glimmer of hope.

Amelia took a page out of Serena's book, channeling the same defiant attitude Serena had often shown in front of Ethan. Serena had the luxury of Ethan's affection, which gave her confidence, so Amelia saw no need to rush into explanations. She stood tall, her face a mask of indifference.

"Ethan, you can't even recognize me, yet you claim to love me? It's laughable."

"If you think I'm not Serena, then fine, go find your Serena. Let's call it quits right here."

Amelia struggled to her feet, stubbornly turning away to leave.

But Ethan wasn't letting go that easily. He grabbed her wrist again.

With her back to him, Amelia allowed herself a tiny, triumphant smile.

She knew Ethan couldn't resist Serena's stubborn charm, and she was sure he'd fall for it again.

But to her surprise, instead of an apology, Ethan pulled her back with a rough yank, his hand clamping around her neck with alarming force.

"I'm asking you one last time, where is Serena?"

His intense gaze met hers, and his grip was unrelenting, leaving Amelia gasping for air. She thought of fighting back, but it was clear Ethan wasn't bluffing-he seemed ready to choke the life out of her.

In the end, fear got the better of her. Trembling, she whispered, "In... in the small room... at the back of the warehouse..."

Ethan released her abruptly.

Amelia dropped to the floor, her face flushed as she coughed, trying to catch her breath.

Ethan turned to the bodyguard nearby. "Keep an eye on her."

Then he dashed off toward the warehouse.

The bodyguards hoisted Amelia

Her eyes were filled with a mix of resentment and frustration.

Ethan, if you won't choose me, you won't have Serena either.

The fire would turn her to ashes.

The thought made her laugh, a wild, almost unhinged sound.

Even if she failed, knowing Serena wouldn't come out unscathed was a bitter comfort.

After all, if she couldn't win this round, her future was bleak anyway. Dragging Serena down with her felt like a small victory.

Ethan reached the small room, seeing smoke pouring from the door's crack, the air thick with the stench of burning. His eyes narrowed, and without a second thought, he kicked the door open.

Inside, flames roared, and Serena was tied to a metal post. Smoke had overwhelmed her, leaving her face twisted in agony, barely conscious, as the fire edged closer.

"Serena!"

Ethan rushed forward, but Bill, who had followed him in, grabbed him in a panic.

"Mr. Ethan, it's too dangerous! You can't go in there. We've called the fire department."

"Get out of my way!"

Ethan swung a punch at Bill, freeing himself, and dashed inside, dodging the flames as he headed for Serena.

Serena, through the haze, saw Ethan coming. Her lips moved, trying to form words, but she was too weak, her voice barely a whisper.

A falling beam struck Ethan's back, pain contorting his features, but he pushed through, teeth gritted, until he reached Serena.

He lifted her gently, his hand brushing against her cheek. “Serena, don't worry. I'll get you out of here."

But Serena clung to his hand, her grip surprisingly strong. "My hands... they're tied. Leave me. If you don't go now, we'll both... burn."
