Chapter 962
Several hefty guys, seeing Everett charging in with his squad of bodyguards and cops practically surrounding them, wisely decided not to put up a fight and were quickly taken down.
Everett dashed over to Yasmine and Mateo, swiftly untying their ropes. He looked Yasmine over, his voice rough with concern, "Are you okay? What were you thinking coming here alone? You realize how dangerous that was, right?"
Tears welled up in Yasmine's eyes. "I was just worried about the kid..."
Everett scooped up Mateo, checking him over. The little guy looked a bit pale, but his breathing was calm, probably just fainted from fear.
He planted a gentle kiss on his son's cheek before handing him to Alex, who held Mateo securely.
"He's alright, but we should still get him to the hospital for a check-up. Let's move," Everett said, reaching out to help Yasmine to her feet.
"Thank goodness," Yasmine said with a relieved smile, but then everything went dark, and she fainted.
Everett caught her just in time. "Selena?" he murmured softly.
He looked down at her, something unreadable flickering in his eyes, his brow creasing. But without missing a beat, he scooped her up and carried her out.
In a small room nearby, Selena watched the whole scene unfold on a video screen.
Her heart felt like it was being stabbed repeatedly, a dull, relentless ache.
So... she had been too sure of herself after all...
The thug guarding Selena sneered, "Ms. Selena, looks like today's your unlucky day. Don't blame me; I'm just doing my job. If you want to haunt someone after you're gone, don't pick me."noveldrama
With that, he poured gasoline on the floor, lit a match, and tossed it down. Flames instantly roared to life.
The thug slipped out the door, closing it behind him as he made a quick getaway.
...
After settling Yasmine in the car, Everett turned to Alex, instructing her to take a separate car and get Mateo to the hospital.
Alex was puzzled, "Doesn't Mrs. Yasmine need to go to the hospital too? She doesn't look too great..."
Everett didn't offer any explanation. “Just do as I say."
Alex swallowed her questions. "Alright, got it."
She got into another car with Mateo, and it sped off.
Moments later, Everett reopened the back door, grabbed Yasmine's wrist, and with a firm yank, pulled her out.
Yasmine, caught completely off guard, tumbled to the ground, the pain snapping her awake.
She looked up at Everett with wide, innocent eyes. "Everett, what's going on?"
Everett looked down at her, towering over her, "Yasmine, cut the act. No matter how much you try to look like Selena, even if you can fool everyone else, the second you're near me, I know you're not her."
He knew every little thing about his beloved wife-her every gesture, her scent.
Yasmine had nailed Selena's mannerisms down to the tiniest details, but there was one thing she couldn't replicate: her natural essence.
Selena had this subtle scent, one she didn't even know about, a secret only Everett, who had shared his life and bed with her for years, would be aware of.
It was his secret to keep.
"Where is Selena?" he demanded.
Yasmine couldn't wrap her head
around how Everett had spotted the difference so quickly. She'd tested her disguise on many, and not a single person had noticed anything off.
She figured Everett might be bluffing. After all, her men were
already setting the plan in motion to
get rid of Selena. Soon, there
wouldn't be another Selena in the world.
What do you think?
