Please Come Back, Honey! Chapter 151
Emma cooed at the kitten, which didn’t look too anxious or alarmed despite still being unfamiliar with the foreign environment. Meanwhile, Trevor looked down at the young woman, who looked beyond gentle, squatting on the floor, and couldn’t help wondering if they would end up divorced if they had a child between them. She has such a sweet personality; surely, she would be gentle and patient with our kids. Alas… Just what the heck was I thinking, saying she was unworthy to bear my child?! No doubt she wouldn’t want to have a child with me even if I did now. Coming back to reality, he spoke up. “The cat litter, food, and whatnot are still in my car. I’ll go and bring everything up.” Trevor brought the whole shebang over to help Minnie get used to its surroundings. Surely, it would adapt faster with some familiar scent surrounding it. “Okay, thanks.” Emma nodded lightly. However, Trevor hesitated for a second before going down to bring Minnie’s things up. He still hadn’t eaten after a busy morning, so he hoped that Emma would offer him lunch. It didn’t have to be much. A simple plate of pasta would suffice. It took Trevor two trips to move everything he bought from the pet store to Emma’s apartment. The main reason he bought a ton of things was that he worried the kitten would come too suddenly for Emma, and she would be all over the place since there was nothing in her home adequate to care for a cat. So he prepared practically everything, including common medicine, and Emma wouldn’t need to buy anything. After Trevor brought the things up, Emma began sorting them out, like getting the litter box ready, placing Minnie’s bed, and whatnot. Following that, she helped the kitten familiarize itself with the apartment. Meanwhile, Kitty, who had already familiarized itself with the place, would rub itself against Emma every now and then.
All in all, Emma’s entire attention was on the two felines, and she had completely forgotten about Trevor. Trevor, on the other hand, just waited aside in silence. When his stomach couldn’t take the hunger any longer, he finally spoke up, hoping Emma would spare a glance at him. “I haven’t had lunch yet.” Emma was squatting on the floor, committed to bonding with the two felines when she heard Trevor’s voice. “You didn’t have lunch at home with your dad?” She turned to him with incredulity. Hadn’t he gone home with his dad? He would’ve at least had lunch with his parents, no? “No, I came here as soon as I sent him home,” Trevor grumbled. But fearing that Emma thought he was some heartless guy, he defended himself after some thought. “There’s not much of a bond between us. We’re practically strangers.” Moreover, Jared returned to Jonestown for Arianna’s issue. So Trevor, even more so, didn’t want to sit at the same table as Jared. Jared turned grim instantly when Trevor immediately left after dropping him off. However, Trevor didn’t give a thing about it, doing what he set off to do. Jared had never fulfilled a sliver of his responsibility as a father, so he had no right to demand Trevor oblige his orders. Why was Trevor tight with this grandfather? Why did Trevor compromise and marry Emma when his grandfather’s life was on the line? Because Christopher was the one who raised him since he was a child. The old man taught him everything, from life lessons to business means. Arguably, Christopher was a major reason Trevor became the man he was today. Jared, on the other hand, only ever cared about his merry life. Be it treating Trevor or Arianna, Jared was beyond irresponsible as a father. It wasn’t news to Emma that Trevor’s relationship with his father was practically non-existent. But she didn’t make any comments, for this was the Batesons’ issue anyhow; it had nothing to do with her anymore. “I ordered food delivery earlier, and there’s nothing left from it. Also, I don’t really have anything edible at home. Why don’t you grab a bite outside?” she suggested.
But Trevor was clearly displeased with her reply. After shooting her a glance, he walked straight into her kitchen and pulled out a box of dry spaghetti from the cupboard. “You still have spaghetti left.” “Is a plate of spaghetti enough to fill you up?” Emma felt somewhat frustrated. “Yes,” Trevor answered plainly. What else could Emma say when he had already put it like that? With that, she washed her hands and got cooking. Trevor had just gotten her a kitten she absolutely adored, after all. So she was still willing to cook up something for him. Also, to show her gratitude, Emma sliced up some Asian braised beef shanks for him when she remembered she had some stored in the fridge. Trevor had been hoping to eat a plate of Emma’s pasta for the longest time, and his wish was finally fulfilled on this day. In actuality, he could have Emma’s home-cooking whenever he wanted back when they were still married. It was only until they divorced that he finally realized just how precious monotonous yet serene days could be. “I thought you don’t eat beef? Why do you keep braised beef shank in your fridge?” Trevor asked after taking a glance at the beef shank. He had actually asked so because he hoped to hear something pleasing to his ears like this was his favorite, or she had prepared it for him, or something else along the line. “You’re right; I don’t. But someone else loves it.” Like Susanna. For a celebrity, one in-demand at that, it honestly baffled Emma how Susanna was a meat-eater through and through. Does she not fear gaining weight? Bearing in mind that Susanna liked these kinds of dishes, Emma would normally stock some of Susanna’s favorite food in her fridge. Trevor instantly thought the pasta and beef shank in front of him was as tasteless as wax after hearing Emma’s words, for he reflexively thought Emma stocked it for Wesley. Meanwhile, Emma thought her ex-husband was being inexplicable, seeing that his countenance suddenly turned awful. What have I said wrong again?
“I’m going to clear the table if you’re done.” She got up when she saw that he had stopped eating for quite a while. Seeing that she was really going to do as she said, Trevor hurriedly shoved a couple of mouthfuls down his throat before muttering, “I thought you prepared the beef for Wesley.” Emma had the urge to roll her eyes. This is what he’s upset about? “Do you often cook for Wesley?” Trevor asked. He felt exasperated at the thought that Wesley, too, could enjoy the treatment that once belonged to him. He hadn’t thought much of it when he first learned that Emma was seeing the guy. But now, he was getting increasingly ruffled lately, and his desire to own Emma grew more and more intense. “No,” said Emma, leading Trevor to heave a sigh of relief that lasted only one second, for she continued, “He usually does it for me.” I just had to ask! Trevor mused. Wesley cooking for Emma made him feel even more exasperated than Emma cooking for Wesley, for it made him appear even lesser than Wesley.Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
