Chapter 217
"Paisley, don't scare me. What's wrong with Serena?" Maria saw Paisley's face turn pale instantly, and her own panic grew uncontrollable.
Paisley's hands trembled as she held Serena's wrist. Forcing herself
to stay calm despite the fear and anxiety surging inside her, she looked at Jonathan. Jonathan, Serena is suffering from severe internal bleeding. She needs immediate treatment." Jonathan nodded. The moment he saw the child, he knew something was wrong. Earlier, he had tried waking her, but she barely managed to move her eyelids and couldn't even open her eyes.
"Quick! There's an emergency here. This child is in
hemorrhagic shock!" Without wasting a second, Jonathan took Serena from Maria's arms and rushed toward the emergency room.
Several medical staff arrived with a mobile hospital bed. Jonathan placed the unconscious Serena onto it. Without any delay, the group hurried toward the emergency room, racing against time. The previously noisy emergency hall fell completely silent. Both children and adults were visibly shaken by what had just happened.
Just moments ago, Serena had seemed fine, but now she was being rushed into intensive care. She was such a sweet little girl. Everyone was praying that nothing would happen to her. Even Lauren had stopped her angry tirade, staring blankly at Serena being wheeled past her. When her gaze landed on Serena's pale, bloodless face, she instinctively took a step back. Anxiety churned in her heart. If she hadn't delayed Paisley earlier, would Paisley have noticed Serena's condition sooner?
She only wanted Paisley to spend more time with Sonny, to be a responsible mother instead of focusing solely on a daughter she had with someone else. That was all. Grayson, now quiet, looked up at Lauren and whispered, "Grandma, will Serena be okay?"
Lauren didn't know, her eyes following Serena as she was wheeled away.
Paisley followed closely behind Serena's hospital bed, consumed by endless regret. She had neglected Serena for work these past few days.
Serena had clearly missed her so much but had never complained. Every time they talked on the phone, she'd always cheerfully say she was being good, reassuring her not to worry. This morning, Serena had woken up extra early, groggy and barely able to speak, just to see her off, just to say, "Goodbye, Mommy.
Max trailed right behind Paisley, his deep gaze fixed on her. "Serena will be okay."
Paisley gave him a pale nod, her eyes never leaving Serena for even a second.
Watching them, Dominick felt a pang of bitterness in his heart. He knew it was wrong to feel this way at such a critical moment. After all, Serena's condition was already so dire. should've been hum
But he
couldn't stop himself from caring. He couldn't stop himself from being affected. The man standing next to Paisley
Maria stayed on the other side of Serena, calling her name over and over again, but Serena never responded.
"It's all my fault! I shouldn't have let her sleep. She said she was tired, so I thought she really was tired. When she started shivering. I thought she was just cold and even borrowed a blanket for her. "If I'd noticed earlier, would this have happened? It's my fault. Taking her to that children's restaurant for no reason. It's all my
fault. Serena, my Serenal' Soon, Serena was wheeled into the emer room.
Paisley tried to follow, but Jonathan stopped her at the door. "Paisy, your identity and emotional state right now make it unsuitable for you to be involved in your daughter's treatment. Trust me- I'll be in there. I'll keep you updated."
Jonathan, please take care of my daughter. Paisley pleaded, even though she knew Jonathan was right. Right now, she was in no condition to act as a doctor and help save Serena.
"Got it Don't worry." Jonathan walked a few steps, then suddenly turned back. "Paisy, with your daughter's condition, she'll likely need a blood transfusion. The blood test results won't be ready for a while, so I need you to tell me now- what's her blood type?"
Blood type? Paisley visibly froze for a moment, looking over at Dominick and then toward the Vanderbilt family members not far away. Why did it have to be at a time like this? "Type A!" Dominick blurted out.
He frowned at Paisley, unable to understand why she was faltering at such a critical moment. Could it be that she had forgotten their daughter's
blood type?
"Paisley, what's wrong? You can't
even remember your own daughter's blood type? Didn't you say it yourself last time?" he asked her. Back at Nathaniel's club, she had been very clear that her daughter's blood type was Type A.
As Dominick mentioned Paisley's daughter's blood type, Max glanced at him briefly, his expression unreadable.
Jonathan, too, looked at Dominick in surprise, not expecting her ex-
husband to know this. But with the urgent situation, he didn't have time to linger. "Alright, I got it. He turned and headed into the emergency room.
Wait, Jonathan! Just as Jonathan was about to enter, Paisley finally spoke up, stopping him.
Jonathan turned back. "What is it?"
"Type O. She furrowed her brows and said it out loud.
"What?" Jonathan was confused and double-
checked, "What's your daughter's blood type, Paisley? You should know. This isn't something you can get wrong-
it could have serious consequences.
Paisley took a deep breath. She knew she couldn't keep this secret forever. "Type O. My daughter's blood type is Type O, she confirmed.
It felt like a sharp sound pierced through Dominick's mind at that moment. He stared at Paisley in shock as she repeated Serena's blood type. Type O, not Type A.
"Paisley, are you sure? Is it Type O? Jonathan confirmed again.noveldrama
"I'm sure. I wouldn't gamble with my daughter's life, Paisley said firmly, though she seemed drained of all strength.
Back then, she only wanted to hide Serena's parentage and keep the Vanderbilt family from ever finding out. She wanted to cut all ties with that family. But she hadn't anticipated a situation like this, "Alright, I got it," Jonathan said before quickly heading into the emergency room with the confirmed blood type. Not far away, the Vanderbilt family was observing the scene.
"Type O? What a coincidence. My brother's Type
O too, Kayla said absentmindedly, not thinking too deeply yet.
However, her words made Lauren and Reginald exchange a synchronized look, their eyes filled with shock. In their family, everyone except Lauren was Type O-
Reginald, Dominick, Kayla, and even Grayson.
Now Paisley's daughter was also Type O. Could it really be just a coincidence? Or was it something else?
At that moment, Kayla also realized something. "Could it be that Serena is my brother's?" She covered her mouth in shock, as though she had stumbled upon a massive secret.
What do you think?
