Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change?

Chapter 1088

The drive wasn't exactly short-it took nearly an hour to reach their destination. As the car pulled into the driveway, Sherilyn could see Gilbert waiting by the front door from a distance.

Once the car stopped, Gilbert was already at her side, opening the door and offering his hand. "Long drive, wasn't it? You must be tired."

Sherilyn took his hand, noticing a red string on his right wrist. She remembered he didn't have that last night.

Curiosity piqued, she asked, "What's this?"

"Oh, this?" Gilbert lifted his arm, pulling back his cuff to reveal more. "Take a look yourself."

Sherilyn saw it clearly now. It was a simple, dark red string with a walnut shell attached.

"Is that...?" Sherilyn's eyes widened with recognition.

Gilbert chuckled, "You don't recognize the gift you gave me?"

Of course, she recognized it. She just didn't expect him to actually wear it. It was something she had made on a whim to amuse little Jenna.

"I had it sent to a shop for a little polish and strung it on this cord," Gilbert explained, giving his wrist a gentle shake, making the walnut swing. "Do you like it?"

The polished shell was indeed quite charming. Yet, Sherilyn hesitated, unsure what to say.

"It's not worth much," she finally remarked, considering how it didn't quite match his status.

"Are you kidding?" Gilbert gave her a mock glare. "Even with money, you couldn't buy something like this. It's one of a kind because you made it for me."

Sherilyn looked at his earnest expression and felt her heart soften. "Let's go eat, shall we?"

Gilbert put his arm around her shoulder. "You must be hungry. The food here is pretty good."

They made their way to the dining room, settling into a cozy booth. Sherilyn was new to the place, so Gilbert ordered according to her preferences. Famished, she ate more than usual.

Afterwards, she rubbed her slightly rounded stomach, frowning in mild regret. "I've eaten like a pig."noveldrama

"Nonsense, Gilbert said, taking her

The air here is nice."

"Sounds good," Sherilyn agreed. She was too full to lie down and sleep anyway.

They left the restaurant, the evening breeze brushing against them. "Ah,

this feels great," Sherilyn Signed!"

"I was worried you might be cold," Gilbert said, concern lacing his voice.

"Cold? It's summer, silly." Sherilyn gave him a playful look before her eyes caught something. "Hey, what's that?"

"What?"

"There, can't you see it? That spot over there, glowing."

"No..." Gilbert squinted, shaking his head, "Where?"

"There!" Sherilyn insisted, tugging him along. "How can you not see it? You need glasses or what?"

As they walked closer, the glowing area became more pronounced. "See it now?"

"Yeah." Gilbert nodded with a smile. "I see it."

"Let's go check it out," Sherilyn said excitedly.
