Chapter 947
Chloe had been scratching her head these past few days, wondering why she'd ever decided to slip a tracking device onto her friend. There was this gnawing feeling that her friend was up to something shady, and somehow, Chloe was tied into it. She didn't want to tip her friend off, so she kept her suspicions under wraps and quietly snooped around.
Today's visit was supposed to be a quick peek. At first, she thought her friend might have a family member buried here. But stumbling across a lavish mansion in what appeared to be a forgotten graveyard was the last thing she expected. Now, it felt like her friend had a hand in everything happening around her.
By now, Chloe knew she couldn't just walk away. For weeks, her curiosity had been piqued by these unsolved mysteries, but now she sensed a whiff of danger. Even though she'd bugged her friend, it never crossed her mind that harm might come from it. She was still skeptical about that. It was the secrets her friend seemed to keep that pulled her in.
The butler had already vanished, and Chloe suddenly realized how deserted the place was. She planned to explore a bit, but as she started up the stairs, a door at the end of the hallway swung open, revealing some noise coming from inside. Chloe narrowed her eyes and made her way to the door.
Inside, it looked like there was a tunnel, with stairs spiraling downwards, bathed in a strange glow. Suddenly, a familiar voice recited a poem from somewhere below: "Where there is no tree of enlightenment, the bright mirror is also nowhere to stand. Originally, there is not a single thing, so where can dust alight?"
Chloe froze. It was her mentor's voice, reciting his favorite poem, one he'd drunkenly repeat often. Her breath hitched, and her heart raced. Could her mentor really be here? Listening closely, she felt sure it was him.
With no time to waste, she began descending the stairs. The deeper she went, the brighter it got. At the bottom, Chloe was dumbstruck. It was a dungeon, with rows of cells lining the walls. But the cells didn't hold people-they held fierce Siberian wolves.

These were the same wolves her friend had been raising, weren't they? A light bulb went off in Chloe's mind, and a wave of forgotten memories flooded back. Her body went stiff. For a month, she'd felt like she'd forgotten something crucial. That day, she had been about to tell Connor something important, but it had slipped away.

Seeing these wolves now unlocked a hidden door in her mind. Yes, the wolves! She'd noticed that the wolves her friend kept at Moonlit Manor and those on Paradise Island shared the same markings. She suspected her friend was tangled up with Suzanne's crew. She'd even sneaked a tracker into her friend's watch because of it.
Suddenly, everything clicked. But now, she was shaking. Her friend had moved the wolves from Moonlit Manor to this secret spot, which meant he suspected something and was trying to cover his tracks. He knew Chloe was onto him. She even suspected he knew about the tracker in his watch. Otherwise, why would he tell the butler to "take good care of her"?
Chloe's head was spinning. What on earth was her friend hiding? But right now,
all she could think about was finding her mentor. What was he doing in a place like this?
What do you think?
