Chapter 949
Chloe was desperate to figure out why her mentor was stuck here. She needed to know what had really happened with Grant and uncover the unbelievable secrets hidden beneath it all. But as she watched the cage slowly submerge into the water, she couldn't let her mind wander elsewhere. Chloe forced herself to keep it together.
"Mentor, how do I get you out of here? Where's the control panel?" In Chloe's mind, there was just one thought: she had to save her mentor.
The old man sighed, "You stubborn kid, why can't you just let this go? You need to leave before your friend finds out-it's gonna be a mess."
"Did my friend trap you here? Why would they do this?"
"Chloe, you have to realize your friend isn't the same person you knew growing up. They're carrying the weight of old grudges, even the entire family's bloody history. Please, go now. You can't be mixed up in this. Wait until the baby is born safely before dealing with all this."
Nemo was puzzled about why Chloe was here. But it was definitely not a good sign. If she stumbled upon this by accident, that was one thing. But if Grant was in the know, it was a whole different ball game. The old man hesitated, debating whether to spill the beans.
"Mentor, my friend knows I'm here. They invited me in."
Chloe seemed to pick up on Nemo's internal conflict. A flicker of surprise crossed the old man's face but he quickly regained his composure. The cage kept sinking, and Chloe was already on her knees.
Nemo said, "Your friend is a descendant of the Grevenberg family. Remember that. They have a blood feud with the Sartori family. You have to tell Jeffery from the Sartori family. Things come full circle, vengeance has its way, and life pays for life."
Chloe couldn't make heads or tails of what her mentor was saying. It was like he was speaking in riddles, and then there was Jeffery-how did he fit into all this? These scattered clues were like a tangled web, and Chloe was caught right in the middle, still totally in the dark. The water had reached the old man's neck.
"Chloe, your friend only bends to kindness, not force. They want to use you to take down the Sartori heir. You must..."
And then, Nemo was completely underwater. Chloe was so frantic she almost jumped in after him. As she turned, she noticed someone behind her. It was Grant.
Chloe's heart skipped a beat. Grant was already close. Almost on instinct, Chloe blurted, "Weren't you supposed to be at the office?"
She had checked Grant's location and saw he was back there before she decided
to come. For once, Grant's usually stern face softened with a rare smile.
"I had my assistant take the watch to the office," Grant said.
Chloe's face fell. So it was true.
Grant had known all along about the tracker she slipped into his watch He'd lured her right into his trap, making her suspicious by repeatedly visiting Rooster Hill. He waitednoveldrama
patiently until her curiosity got the better of her.
She thought she was slyly investigating her friend, but every step she took was part of his plan Even now, Chloe couldn't grasp what her friend was aiming for. But there was no time to ponder it. She pointed at the water cage and yelled, "Let my mentor go! Release him now!"
Chloe was beyond agitated, her face flushed with anger.
What do you think?
